“Big Spring, Texas had 600 residents who were policy holders.” The population of Big Spring was 13,375 in 1930. A fast growing oil boom town, almost 5% of the population purchased Marriage Insurance. Assuming most oil field workers were men there was probably a scarcity of marriage opportunities which favored underwriting odds.
