Texas health insurance brokers who find themselves in the unemployment line by way of passage of HB 602 will be able to retrain for other careers through state provided funding.
The Texas legislature meets every two years. They are meeting now, considering hundreds of bills introduced by members, many of which will never see the light of day.
One of the bills that caught our attention is House Bill 602, the Healthy Texas Program.

“The Healthy Texas Board created by this Act shall provide money from the healthy Texas fund established by Section 1698.0305, Insurance Code, as added by this Act, or from funds otherwise appropriated for this purpose to the Texas Workforce Commission for a program for retraining and assisting job transition for individuals employed or previously employed in the fields of health insurance , health care service plans, and other third-party payments for health care or those individuals providing services to health care providers to deal with third-party payers for health care, whose jobs may be ending or have ended as a result The Healthy Texas Board created by this Act shall provide money from the healthy Texas fund established by Section 1698.0305, Insurance Code, as added by this Act, or from funds otherwise appropriated for this purpose to the Texas Workforce Commission for a program for retraining and assisting job transition for individuals employed or previously employed in the fields of health insurance , health care service plans, and other third-party payments for health care or those individuals providing services to health care providers to deal with third-party payers………..”
