Willacy County Employee Health & Welfare Plan Adopts Wellness Initiative

Raymondville, TX – April 15, 2024 – Willacy County is pleased to announce the launch of its latest initiative aimed at enhancing the health and wellness of its employees. The new program is designed to promote healthier lifestyles and improve overall well-being among county employees.

Recognizing the importance of investing in the health and wellness of its workforce, Willacy County has partnered with primary care physicians, clinicians and wellness centers of excellence to develop a comprehensive program tailored to the specific needs and interests of its employees.

The program incorporates medical weight management and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy leading to an improved quality of life and decreased risk of chronic disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease and breast cancer.

“We are excited to launch the Willacy Wellness Initiative and invest in the health and well-being of our employees,” said Ruben Cavazos, County Treasurer. “By providing resources and support to help our employees lead healthier lives, we aim to create a happier, more productive workforce and a stronger, more vibrant community.”

According to a study by the UTRGV School of Public Health in Brownsville the prevalence of diabetes and obesity in South Texas is significantly higher than national averages. These risk factors result in higher health insurance costs, less productive employees and lost time from work.

“The Willacy Wellness Initiative reflects Willacy County’s commitment to fostering a culture of health and wellness within our organization” said Aurelio “Keter” Guerra,Willacy County Judge. “By prioritizing employee well-being, we seek to set an example for other employers and contribute to the overall health and vitality of the community.”
