Issued by: Medica -June 25, 2018
MINNETONKA, Minn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jun 25, 2018–Medica today announced it will bring new competition to the health insurance market for individuals and their family members who are Oklahoma residents under the age of 65. Individual health insurance is the kind of coverage consumers buy if they don’t have access to employer coverage or government plans, such as Medicare or Medicaid. Medica employer coverage or government plans are not available to Oklahoma residents.
Medica individual products will be available to Oklahomans in all 77 counties in the state for coverage starting on January 1, 2019. Medica is a major non-profit health insurance company with a history of serving members throughout the central United States for more than 40 years.
“Medica is excited to bring new and competitive choices in health insurance to Oklahoma,” said Geoff Bartsh, Medica vice president and general manager of individual and family business. “Medica has demonstrated stability and service — serving our members in the central United States for more than 40 years. We believe the Oklahoma market shares our commitment to quality and service. That is one of the many reasons we view Oklahoma as a great place for Medica to do business, now and for many years to come.”
Said Oklahoma Insurance Department Commissioner John D. Doak: “Our department has worked with Medica over time as their interest in the Oklahoma marketplace has continued to increase. As with every carrier, we seek to offer a fair regulatory environment that protects consumers and allows companies to compete for business.”
Medica places a high value on its members’ experience. “Shopping for health insurance can be confusing,” Bartsh said. “We’re here to make it easier to understand. We strive to communicate with our members in clear, friendly, and jargon-free language. We train our customer service and sales staffs to help people understand their choices and their plans. We believe Oklahomans will benefit from additional choices and competitive premiums.”
More details about Medica products and pricing will be announced closer to the 2019 open enrollment period, which is November 1 — December 15.
