YOAKUM, Texas- A male patient was seen on March 7th at the Yoakum Community Hospital who presented mild flu like illness, returning a couple days later (specifics of date was not given) with shortness of breath prompted emergency position on call for the patient to be transferred to an Austin facility to be tested for COVID-19 resulting in a positive testing.

Yoakum Community Hospital has identified all the staff that meet the criteria for surveillance under CDC guidelines.

Effective March 13, 2020, the following measures will be instituted at Yoakum Community Hospital.

  1. YCH will restrict access to the Hospital for patients, visitors, employees, and clinical personnel. Access will only be through the emergency room doors and Professional Office Building doors.
  2. There will be a formal check-in and check-out for everyone.
  3. Patients are limited to one companion— no exceptions during this time.
  4. Public access to the Bistro (Cafeteria) will not be allowed at this time.

YCH is still open for all emergency and hospital services.
