Law360, New York (May 16, 2016, 10:35 AM ET) — The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday sent a long-running battle over the Affordable Care Act’s contraception mandate back to lower courts, directing the Obama administration and religious nonprofits to work out a compromise.

In an unsigned opinion, justices vacated several circuit court rulings and suggested that a middle-ground approach they floated recently could serve as a roadmap for resolving the dispute. Both sides have offered conditional support for the approach, justices noted.
