A Tribute to Bill Lindsey

In the early 90’s, Bill developed a very successful program for Reference Based Pricing, putting together all the necessary components for success, and championed this approach in all the years since then, along with assisting self-funded employers in effectively utilizing proprietary clinic settings for benefits.

Bill Lindsey – March 14, 1942 – April 3, 2021 – GreenTree Administrators

In 1985, it was my pleasure to meet the one and only Bill Lindsey when he became a client of the company that I worked for at the time in Fort Worth. He was one of a few forward-thinking insurance executives in Texas that had the foresight to offer employer groups an alternative to traditional high-cost insurance benefits, and started his Third Party Administration company, GreenTree Administrators in Beaumont, Texas.

With another company, I had continued to work with Bill’s TPA as a client and we eventually had several mutual employer group clients. We were both members of the Texas Association of Benefit Administrators (TABA), an industry networking group of numerous colorful entrepreneurs, all blazing new trails in the self-insured industry.

Bill was naturally considered a “trail-boss,” so well-respected and loved. But he could have fun too.  On one occasion after a TABA meeting, several of us were walking the San Antonio River Walk for dinner, we saw a nice-looking, well-dressed man in a large window front, dancing, waving to the by-passers…and us.  Yep, it was the life of the party, Bill pointing us to the restaurant.

God Bless You Bill Lindsey for being YOU, there is surely not another one like you, and we love you!

Bill Lindsey passed on April 3 and was laid to rest in his hometown of Beaumont, Texas. He is survived by his beautiful wife Minnie and a large and loving family. Bill was owner and founder of GreenTree Administrators in Beaumont for over forty years, where he fervently worked to educate brokers and employers in Southeast Texas regarding the opportunities and advantages of self-funding health plan benefits.

In the early 90’s, Bill developed a very successful program for Reference Based Pricing, putting together all the necessary components for success, and championed this approach in all the years since then, along with assisting self-funded employers in effectively utilizing proprietary clinic settings for benefits.

Bill was an innovative wild-cat, former pipe-line worker, rebel-rouser, not afraid to buck the system and sit down will hospital facilities to obtain reasonable costs for health plans. Bill was indeed one-of-a-kind, a creative talented wood-worker, a seasoned wine-connoisseur, and was well-read with extensive knowledge of world history and understanding of religious beliefs with a deeply sincere personal belief in Christ. He will be missed by all who knew him!
