When People Say “Why Is Healthcare So Expensive?” Show Them This Graph

By Chris Barakat – First Primary Care

Just remember. When people ask why is healthcare so expensive? And why are hospitals going out of business? Show them this graph.

It also helps at Open Enrollment meetings when members ask “why are we doing cash pay”?

Answer…” This graph shows the growth of Physicians in Green VS the growth of Administrators in Red. When you pay for care you are also paying for the bloat that goes with it. So,

when you need to see a doctor, how many of you want to pay for administrators? Great, as I thought, no-one.. Just to double check, how many of you are ok paying for Physicians to take care of you when you are sick? Good, almost all of you…

Well… When you pull out your insurance card, you pay for the Red… You pay for all the billing people for the doctor & the facility, then you pay for all the insurance company administrators, then the denials and the lawyers and 60-90 days later the doctor and the facility may get paid. Do you see how a simple visit just got expensive??

When you “cash pay”, we cut out all the middle men so you pay for the green, so paying Cash reduces paying for the Red, meaning the care is cheaper, meaning the plan and you save money. Cool, now we have done 101 in why healthcare is expensive, who is ok with cash pay and reducing the use of your insurance card? Great, almost everyone.”
