What A Difference An Imaginary Line Makes

Borders are manmade lines. The Texas / Mexico border along the lower Rio Grande Valley segregates medical care givers into two different economic pods. Drug manufacturers serve both but with vastly different pricing models.

Here’s an example.

Today’s retail price in Progresso, Mexico for zithromax 500 mg = $0.71 per tablet. A few hundred feet away in the United States the cost is $13.70 per tablet.

Living near or on an imaginary line has it’s advantages.

FROM A PHYSCIAN

Costco sells a z-pack (six 250 mg azithromycin tablets) for $3.51. That’s a little more than the price in Mexico but the $13.50/pill was for the brand name drug and nobody buys that.
