“It appears the FBI is now involved in a bribery scandal ………………..allegations of bribery first surfaced after Tikia sent a letter to the LPSB demanding more than $200,000 in payment”
It appears the FBI is now involved in a bribery scandal plaguing the Lafayette Parish School Board.
According to IND Media, anonymous sources confirm the FBI will be questioning board members about health insurance consultant Rina Tikia’s alleged offering of New Orleans Saints tickets to at least two board members — Mark Cockerham and Shelton Cobb — during the body’s health insurance administrator selection process last year. Tikia allegedly pushed for the board to select Key Benefit Adminstrators, which she claimed would have saved the board money.
Allegations of bribery first surfaced after Tikia sent a letter to the LPSB demanding more than $200,000 in payment. The board voted in February to ignore the letter and let the matter go to courts — if it reaches that point — as it never signed a contract with the health insurance consultant from New Orleans.
Board member Tehmi Chassion told KPEL last month he thinks the bribery scandal is made up; yet Chassion is allegedly the subject of federal investigation, too.
The IND is also reporting that the 2012 health administrator selection process is under scrutiny. Chassion was pushing for the board to select a company that would have benefitted his half-brother and City-parish Council member Brandon Shelvin.
The Lafayette Parish School System is still with its long-standing health insurance administrator, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and its health insurance committee again recommended staying with the company last month.
