TRS ActiveCare New Theme Song Hits The Charts
HB 3126 was passed by the Texas legislature this year granting former TRS ActiveCare member districts the privilege of rejoining the Texas government health plan if they meet certain eligibility requirements.
Previously, former member districts were scorned, punished for the audacity of seeking greener pastures elsewhere. “Once you leave you’re not welcome back for five years!” was the message.
Between 2022-2024 more than 100 districts left the government program for greener pastures, willing to forage independently with encouragement from commission driven insurance brokers bearing gifts.
Now we learn some want to return. In their December 2025 board meeting trustees were advised as many as 40 districts have expressed an interest in joining the program.
Returning school districts must submit written notice to TRS ActiveCare by December 31, 2025 for participation to begin effective on September 1, 2026.
