Whether or not a patient’s transplant is successful could boil down to hospital choice, as some hospitals have much worse outcomes than others, according to data from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients.
The Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients assesses outcomes of centers that perform major organ transplants using data from other organizations. SRTR assigns an assessment score of one (the worst) through five (the best) to transplant centers that indicates if the program’s one-year survival after transplant rate (meaning the patient is alive with a functioning transplanted organ) is better, worse or the same as what is expected for that program.
Listed below are the hospitals that received a score of one from SRTR for four most common transplant types for adults — liver, heart, lung and kidney. (See the hospitals with the best transplant outcomes here.)
