The Power of “Skin In The Game”

If this patient didn’t have “Skin In The Game” he would not have shopped for care.

That’s what’s wrong with most group plans. Doesn’t matter where you go for care your out-of-pocket is the same. There’s no incentive to shop.

These plans pay for MRI’s (pick a procedure) that cost $3,000 at one location or $400 at another location 25 minutes away. The patient’s financial responsibility is the same.

This is discriminatory because health insurance is a reimbursement for loss incurred by the insured. So Tom is reimbursed $3,000 while Dick is reimbursed $400 for the same service.

Shopping for health care can be done by plan members or by companies like Asserta Health and others behalf of plan members.
