Much has changed for the company over the years. Today, SWBC has increased its reach across the United States, offering 150 products spanning 18 divisions and 3,300 employees.

“When we started this company, we had no idea of the incredible journey it would take us,” said Charlie Amato, chairman and co-founder in a press release.

SWBC works with individuals, businesses, and financial institutions to provide services such as mortgages, life insurance, investment programs, payroll services, risk management, cyber liability, and employee benefits.

The company also has staked its claim in a number of philanthropic endeavors over the years in the communities where it serves. Most notably, it’s involved with the United Way, the American Heart Association, the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, and Silver and Black Give Back.

Amato and Dudley, too, have achieved individual successes. Both were inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame, awarded the Beta Gamma Sigma Medallion for Entrepreneurship, and created The Gary Dudley andCharlie Amato Endowed Chair in Pediatric Neurology at the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. They are both distinguished alumni of Sam Houston State University and were inducted into the school’s College of Business Hall of Honor. Amato also was appointed board member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, San Antonio branch and Regent of the Texas State University System. He also recently was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, the highest honor the University of the Incarnate Word can confer on an individual. Dudley, meanwhile, has chaired the San Antonio Heart and Stroke Walk. Both are investors in the San Antonio Spurs.

“We stress the importance of integrity and doing what is right for the community,” said Dudley, president and co-founder, in the release. “It’s worked for the past 40 years, and we plan to continue.”
