As access barriers are torn down by new payment models, modern admin infrastructure, and AI, we’ll see a new class of healthcare navigator emerge. These sherpas will help curate optimal pathways, manage alerts and alarms, translate new data models, and coordinate collaboration across service sites and delivery channels, and triage issues.
These next gen frontline workers will be largely remote, relying on integrated infrastructure to streamline record sharing, communication, transportation, and engagement between all stakeholders, preserving the human element in healthcare, and offering a sense of calm while the system trends towards autopilot.
They will be MAs, nurses, APPs, MDs, broker/consultants, AI agents, and even influencers – accredited by the crowd and judged by outcomes – helping patients, providers and payers navigate the impending longtail of care with surgical precision.
As digital health systems emerge, these guides will be the lone survivors of the era of big box department-store-like institutions and systems we’ve been conditioned to trust – but whose days are ultimately numbered.
