I can sell a health plan that guarantees double digit rate increases year after year along with increasing deductibles and out-of-pocket costs ultimately resulting in functionally uninsured plan members whose employer “cares about them.”
Even with empirical evidence and documented case histories, including plans which have not had a rate increase in 15 years while improving benefits at the same time, the power of the logo and the cult of motherhood is irresistible.
Then there is the motherhood instinct. “Our employees are too dumb (and fragile) to handle change like this!”
And that’s the way it is. The power of the logo draws moths to flames of inaction and failure. Motherhood be damned.
