The SBISD is currently seeking competitive proposals for their self-funded group medical plan as well as all of their voluntary benefits – ( Go to purchasing.sbcisd.net/category/bids/).
Each time the SBISD has a school board election and seats change, the first thing the new board does is throw out the old and bring in the new. The second biggest district expense is at the top of the list, the self-funded honey pot, dba the SBISD Employee Health Plan.
“Let’s go to bid and see what’s out there” is the mantra of every new board.

The first thing seasoned agents, brokers and TPA’s do before they take time and resources to respond to a RFP is to consider past history of the group in an attempt to size up their opportunity for success. Given SBISD’s past history, few take this case very seriously and those that do are either brain dead or stupid, or have very good connections with school board trustees, or are hopelessly optimistic by nature.
We expect more entertainment ahead as this RFP process unfolds.
