“We need a little help in paying for these expensive GLP-1 drugs” explained the company owner. “We simply can’t afford to carry the full freight on these drugs anymore without raising everyone’s rates by 40% this year. We need your help!”
“We tried prior authorization, excluding usage for weight loss. That’s didn’t materially help us much. We thought about eliminating coverage for GLP-1 drugs entirely but decided that would be a little too much for now. We’ll reserve that for another day if necessary.” he continued.
“The good news is we will continue to cover GLP-1 drugs, but differently. Starting today we will reimburse half the cost once you submit a paid receipt. Let’s take Ozempic for example. That costs, on average, about $1,200 a month. Submit your receipt and we will reimburse you $600 as our 50% share” added the pained HR Director.
“And we have found a way to eliminate the ACA maximum-out-of-pocket limit specific to GLP-1 drugs. That means your 50% will remain 50% for as long as you take these GLP-1 drugs” chortled the company CFO.
