WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Talk about having your hands full. In less than 48 hours, 28 babies were born at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest—and in just three days, that number climbed to 39 in early march.
That’s a whole lot of newborn cries—and a whole lot of nurses on the move.
Lauren Abendschein, labor and delivery nurse manager, has worked at the hospital for 10 years. She says on a typical day, they welcome seven to eight babies—sometimes as many as 12.
When a baby boom hits like this, it can strain staff—and that’s when teamwork kicks in, helping turn a crazy shift into a memorable moment.
“We usually will send out this mass communication; hey, you know, it’s raining babies up here. So, if you want to come in, we would love to have you and we have a lot of support, too, just from our mother-baby team, our NICU team,” Abendschein said.
Back in 2024, the hospital delivered a record-breaking 19 babies in just 22 hours.
A huge congratulations to all of these growing families.
