I’d bet most of us have asked ourselves “How much is this going to cost me?” That’s what made me wonder how many employees are making healthcare decisions with their wallet instead of their health?
I see it every week. Employees delay care not just because of cost, but because they don’t fully understand what their benefits cover or what they’ll actually owe, delaying an MRI, skipping a specialist, hoping an issue goes away.
The true test of a health plan isn’t what it covers. It’s whether people actually use it.
As an employer, you’re investing a significant amount of money into employee benefits. If employees are afraid to use them, are you really getting the value you’re paying for? If employees are avoiding care because of cost, that’s not just a healthcare issue. It’s a productivity, retention, and employee experience issue.
Would you know if it was happening?
