AHIP said that the CARES Act requires insurers to pay the listed cash price for a COVID-19 test if there isn’t a contract with the provider or lab, “thus eliminating their ability to negotiate more affordable test prices.”

So, you know how MEC plans have been under mandate to cover this testing as well. MEC plans also are not designed to cover ER visits. But I saw several MEC plan claims from a consultant that were exorbitant. Two of these claims were in the $5000 range and one, a plan member visited an ER, they ran a covid test and the plan was liable for the covid test and the ER visit, some $10,000!
