Dino Chavez Educates Board of Trustees On PPO Contracts

Dino Chavez, a Brownsville, Texas taxpayer, does an excellent job educating the Brownsville Independent School District’s (BISD) Board of Trustees in under five minutes on the power of managed care contracts and offers a common sense solution.

That was four years ago. Did the BISD Board of Trustees adopt his suggestions? The answer is NO. Since then the BISD’s group health insurance plan has skyrocketed in cost, ballooning to more than $50,000,000 a year.

Meanwhile, a thirty minute drive away, two itty bitty school districts enjoy better benefits at half the cost and have not had a rate increase in 15 years. Their members go to the same hospital and doctors as the BISD plan members.

How was that possible?
