Deutschen Gegenseitingen Uenterstuegungs Gesellschaft bei Feuerschaden

GAFM was first founded by Ferdinand Meir, President; George Kuempel, Vice President; Peter Pfluger, Secretary; Henry Pfluger, Treasurer and Ernst W. Pfluger, Mathis Wuthrich, Fritz Sakewitz, Directors in 1891.

True to its German Immigrant heritage, the original name of the company was “Deutschen Gegenseitingen Uenterstuegungs Gesellschaft bei Feuerschaden.”

The first annual meeting was held on May 16, 1892 in Pflugerville and that tradition still continues to this day.

In 1897 the association was granted a state charter as a corporation doing business in Texas and the name was changed to German-American Mutual Assurance Society.

Over the years, GAFM has grown from 303 members in 1901 to 930 members in 2023.  Minutes of the meetings were written in German until 1942.

In 1974 the name of the association was changed to German-American Farm Mutual Insurance Company and a perpetual charter was acquired.
