You Don’t Have to be A Trekkie to Beat the Rigged Game of Health Care Kobayashi Maru

Captain James T. Kirk didn’t believe in a no-win scenario. The Kobayashi Maru test didn’t reflect the realities of an actual battle, so Captain Kirk decided to change the rules of the game.

He thought the test was fundamentally flawed and unfair. The whole game seemed to be unwinnable and that was unacceptable. The idea that playing in a no-win scenario was a good test of character seemed ludicrous. Captain Kirk solved the problem.

He changed the conditions so it was possible to win.

The Health Care Kobayashi Maru

The rigged game of health care is similar to the Kobayashi Maru. The players have been in a no-win scenario for decades. It doesn’t build character to know that every year you willingly accept another onerous, but less bad, health care rate increase.

The Hospitals, Physicians, Big Pharma and Insurance Companies have been dictating pricing and making the rules continuously for decades. The commercial buyers of health care, the privately held and publicly traded companies have been conditioned over many years to believe that the best renewal they can hope for is a less bad rate increase – the unwinnable scenario!

But the rules of the Health Care Kobayashi Maru have changed! If you aren’t working with your own Captain Kirk who knows how to change your outcomes, then you should probably be marooned on Ceti Alpha V.
