Another Lower Rio Grande Valley school district gifts employees $4.8 million Christmas Bonus robbing plan members of better health insurance. The McAllen Independent School District gifted millions too as a “retention” bonus.
The Brownsville Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a multi-million taxable Christmas bonus in a December 2024 board meeting.
That amount of money could have funded a better health plan, affording easier access to care while saving the $50,000,000+ self-funded health plan millions of dollars they don’t have.
$4.9 million could have been turbocharged by millions more in plan savings and better benefits if they knew how. Their insurance consultant should have performed an intervention to stop the madness.
