Mike Dendy Opines – How To Make Commercial Health Insurance Reasonable

Mike Dendy

The health insurance industry is a cartel and cartels have to be broken because by definition they can’t be fixed………………………

The only way to make the politicians in DC effective is via term limits.  The only way to make the cost of commercial health insurance reasonable is via defined contribution plan delivery.  As long as employers are content buying hospital services blindly via the PPOs at 2x to 5x Medicare pay levels and then basically transferring those services at little to no cost to their covered members the cost curve will not be bent.  The health insurance industry is a cartel and cartels have to be broken because by definition they can’t be fixed.

Other countries do a good job of driving care to the lowest common denominator care provider.  An efficient system can’t pay specialist rates for primary care services nor primary care rates when a visit to a local pharmacy will suffice.  Our bleeding-heart system that gives every member on every healthcare plan a blank check at the beginning of the year and promises all the care they care to consume, anywhere and anytime they care to consume, with no interest whatsoever in the cost of that service will continue because the cartel that supports it is so broad and completely greed driven.
