THE SIX THINGS

Please enjoy these six recent articles from ITL. They are, of course, just the beginning, so check out some of the other, more than 1,800 authoritative articles from the almost 600 thought leaders on the website to get specific questions answered or to explore a topic. Then please pass this newsletter along to any colleagues who might benefit from our updates.

For the past couple of weeks, I have been highlighting a number of webinars or conferences that I think are important. Well, here is a link to the registration for what I believe will be the most important of all the events going on this spring. Called “Path to Transformation,” it will be taught on May 10 and 11 in Silicon Valley by our friend Vivek Wadhwa and his son and hosted by those of us at ITL.

We chose the word “transformation” advisedly. An old colleague, Joe Pine, wrote a very well-regarded book called “The Experience Economy,” because he felt that the standard progression about the maturation of industries didn’t go far enough. Yes, industries went from commodities to products to services, but, Joe argued, there was a next step: Businesses could go beyond services and provide experiences. He also teed up the idea that businesses could go beyond experiences and deliver transformation. Vivek is about delivering transformation.

His meaty, two-day event — which he has been conducting around the world, to rave reviews, for other industries — begins with the sort of exposition on technology that he does in the article I’ve included below, on “Tech That Will Define 2016,” but really focuses on how to take technology into major corporations and get to big new products — not just cute ideas that let companies convince themselves they have innovation programs.

If you might be interested, I’d suggest you do two things. First, read his article to get a sense of the sort of vision he will cast. Second, look at his bio. Many of us have a couple of goodies on our resumes, but my reaction when I saw Vivek’s background was, “Toto, I don’t think we’re in Kansas any more.”

Let me know if you have any questions. I hope to see you in May.

Cheers,

Paul Carroll, Editor-in-Chief
