As you know, AMPS is “The cure for the $1,000 Toothbrush” per the NY Times but now we have another contender for most outrageous hospital charge.

We just picked up a claim from a hospital in Nebraska with a charge for $500 to borrow a baby seat to transport a new born from the hospital to home.  Seat has to be returned of course.

Had AMPS not been auditing bills for the client through their very diligent TPA the charge would have never been seen and would have been paid in full or at best with a PPO discount.

If your company or client is paying hospital claims sans professional review you are paying charges similar to this everyday.

Oh, during that same hospital event, there was a charge for $250 for a circumcision.  It’s only funny until you get your health plan cost renewal this year !
