University Health System has teamed up with Southwest Independent School District to open a new health center that will be open to students and siblings under the age of 18………UHS opened its first school-based health center in the Harlandale Independent School District on San Antonio’s South Side in 2013……….

The new center will open Friday, Jan. 9 inside the school district’s central office complex, next to Southwest High School. It will be the second of its kind in Bexar County. It will offer low-cost primary and urgent care services to students and their siblings. Children will have access to immunizations, sports physicals, patient education and other services.
The impetus behind the decision to create the health center was the recognition that even the best teachers have a tough time engaging students if they are in need of medical care, UHS officials say.
