CUNA Announces Health Insurance Program For Credit Unions

MADISON, Wis., July 23, 2014 – To build credit union members’ financial security, CUNA Mutual Group is launching the TruStage®  Health Insurance Program by joining forces with GoHealth, an industry-leader and private health insurance marketplace.

Soon, TruStage-affiliated credit unions will have the opportunity to offer cost-effective health insurance solutions to their members, allowing them to easily choose from a variety of health plans. Through GoHealth, consumers can access all of the plans available on healthcare.gov, as well as additional plans from top carriers.

Using GoHealth’s intuitive Web-based platform, members will be able to compare health insurance plans from these carriers, get quotes, and estimate available federal tax subsidies–applying them directly to their health plan to receive lower monthly premiums. They can also shop over the phone with the guidance of licensed insurance advisors and apply for coverage.

TruStage recognizes the health insurance landscape can be confusing for members and their families and medical bills can put a huge financial strain on the American household.  “As the leading cause of bankruptcy in the U.S., medical bills continue to be a significant stress on many families’ finances,” said Corrin Maier, Director of the MemberCONNECT Program at TruStage. “There’s also confusion about the changes brought on by the Affordable Care Act. Credit unions are in a unique position to respond—they can help members understand the requirements, give them access to affordable health insurance options and help them protect what matters most.”

For credit unions, the TruStage Health Insurance Program with GoHealth presents an opportunity to work with industry leaders and provides a member-centered experience driven by real need. This alliance also offers a built-in marketing program for member communication to make implementation seamless.

“GoHealth positively impacts the way families get their health insurance by simplifying the process. We have had a major impact on the health insurance industry and our relationship with TruStage will help us reach millions of members,” said Brandon Cruz, president of GoHealth.

To date, Chicago-based GoHealth has helped more than 30 million consumers shop for affordable coverage online with its private health insurance marketplace. During the next open enrollment period beginning in November, an estimated 8 million credit union members will seek health insurance coverage through an exchange.

TruStage currently protects more than 14.8 million credit union members with insurance products and programs for life, auto, homeowners, and accidental death and dismemberment. The addition of health insurance options advances the company’s mission to build financial security for their families.

Credit unions enrolled in the MemberCONNECT program—the conduit for credit unions to make TruStage products available—will receive an invitation to an exclusive webinar to learn more about the TruStage Health Insurance Program.
