Recently, a Texas licensed insurance consultant, retained by a Texas independent school district, reported his analysis with recommendations to the district’s School Board of Trustees. Unfortunately for the consultant, one of the school trustees is an experienced purchasing manager well versed in the Texas Education Code in the area of puchasing requirements under a bid or proposal process.

Blue Cross parent’s profits drop in second quarter

(Crain’s) — After surging earlier in the year, profits of the parent of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Illinois dropped sharply during the second quarter, to a still hefty $270 million, as benefits rose and membership shrank.
Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), which operates Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL), announced today an agreement that will establish a nationwide private exchange for employers to use in managing their health benefit offerings.
